What the figures are, and what they are not
Everything is by district. Ghana publishes nothing smaller: the census counts people by district assembly, and so does everything built on it. A neighbourhood here is the district it sits in, so two neighbourhoods in the same district show the same figures, and the comparer says so rather than inventing a difference. A few, like Labone and Pokuase, straddle a boundary and are listed once for each side.
- Rent is an indicative band from one to five, from listing observation and local knowledge. It is a ranking, not a price, and inside a large district rents vary more than between bands.
- Crowding, people, age and work are the 2021 census, as published.
- Noise is modelled from major roads, noisy premises and crowding, the way the map’s noise layer is. Nobody measures noise by district in Accra, so there are no decibels anywhere here.
- Distances are straight lines from the district’s centre. By road they are longer, and at rush hour the time is what matters - so test the commute at the hour you would make it.
