Every year in Accra

Fixtures that come round annually and whose dates for the next edition have not been announced. There is no date on these on purpose: a guessed date that sends you across town is worse than no date at all.

  Chale Wote Street Art Festival

  Culture Usually late August James Town and Ga Mashie Mostly free

  Street art, performance, film and music take over the oldest streets in Accra for a week. The largest thing of its kind in the city, and the one weekend James Town belongs to everybody.

  The Ga harvest festival, and the reason for the kpokpoi. Each Ga town keeps its own date within the season, so ask locally rather than assuming one date covers Accra.

  The national music awards, and the argument the whole country has afterwards.

  Independence Day parade

  Public holiday 6 March, with the national parade rotating between regions Black Star Square when Accra hosts Free

  The parade moves around the country, so it is only in Accra some years. The holiday itself is national and is listed automatically below.

  Emancipation Day and Panafest

  Culture July and August, in alternate years for Panafest Accra, Cape Coast and Elmina Mixed

  Commemorations across the former slave forts, with events in Accra before the coast. Panafest is biennial; Emancipation Day is annual.

How this page is kept

Ghana's public holidays are computed, not typed. They are generated from the same corrected list the rest of the site uses, so they roll forward every year and cannot go stale.

Everything else is checked by hand. There is no public events API with real Accra coverage — Eventbrite withdrew public event search in 2020, and the global ticketing services have almost no Ghanaian listings — so anything claiming to pull Accra events automatically is either scraping somebody or showing you nothing. Each listing here carries where it came from and when it was last checked.
