Accra goes out late and goes out hard. The clubs fill well after midnight, the music is Afrobeats and amapiano with the volume of a stadium, and on a good Saturday the dance floor is still full when the sky is getting light. It is also a city where a night out can cost a little or a great deal, and the difference is mostly which door you walk through.
This guide covers the clubs - places built for dancing. Bars, rooftops and live music each have their own guide, and the night out planner will put an evening together for a budget.
How a night out in Accra runs
Late. A club that opens in the evening is usually near-empty until midnight. Most people eat first, start at a bar or a lounge, and arrive at the club well after it opens. Arriving early is no hardship - it is quieter and easier to get in - but it is not when the night happens.
Thursday to Saturday, mostly. Several clubs open only at the end of the week, and some only on two or three nights. Check the night before you go: the table below has the nights each one opens, as best they could be checked.
Tables and minimum spends. The bigger clubs sell tables with a bottle package and a minimum spend, and the best spots near the floor go first on a busy weekend. Standing at the bar costs only what you drink.
Afrobeats and amapiano. The soundtrack of almost every club in the city, with hip hop, dancehall and Ghanaian classics through the night. A DJ who drops a hiplife anthem from a decade ago will get the loudest cheer of the evening.
The clubs, by area
Every price here is an estimate of what a night runs to - not a price list, not quoted by the venue, and not checked at the door. Treat it as the right order of magnitude and expect the bill to differ. Nightlife prices and hours move fast, which is why the list behind this page expires.

Airport City and Airport Residential is the polished end of the city: penthouse and tower venues, cocktails at hotel prices, a dress code at the door.
- Carbon Nightclub (Airport Residential). Sleek penthouse nightclub inside Airport City. High-energy light displays, celebrity guest appearances, and nonstop Afrobeats & Amapiano hits. Music: afrobeats, amapiano, hip hop, dj.
East Legon has the yard and rooftop venues, looser and younger, along and around Lagos Avenue.
- Garage Lounge & Bar (East Legon). Industrial-chic open yard in East Legon. High-energy Afrobeats crowd, outdoor bar pavilions, and midnight shisha & grilled chops. Music: afrobeats, amapiano, hip hop.
- Mood Bar & Rooftop (East Legon). Electric neon-lit rooftop in East Legon where late-night crowds dance to heavy basslines and toast with top-shelf spirits. Music: amapiano, afrobeats, hip hop.
Labone and Osu hold the long-standing names, a short ride from Oxford Street’s bars.
- Twist Lounge & Nightclub (Labone). Accra's long-standing benchmark for elite late-night clubbing. High-octane sound system, VIP table service, and packed weekend dance floors. Music: afrobeats, amapiano, hip hop, dj.
Labadi is the beach, where the night starts at sunset.
- Sandbox Beach Club (Labadi). Stunning luxury oceanfront club facing the Gulf of Guinea. Sunset sessions transition into electric night parties with DJ sets. Music: amapiano, afrobeats, dj.
The descriptions are the venues’ own character as recorded in the list behind this page, not a review.

Getting in
- Dress up rather than down. The pricier clubs turn people away for slippers, shorts and vests, and the decision at the door is final. Smart shoes and a collar never go wrong.
- Carry identification. A Ghana Card, a passport or a driving licence. Being asked is not unusual.
- Entry differs by night. Some clubs charge only on their big nights; the figures above are the usual weekend case.
- Guest lists and promoters are how much of the city’s clubbing is organised - a promoter’s WhatsApp group often has the night’s line-up, the entry and the dress code before anywhere else does.
Paying
Cards work at the bigger venues and mobile money at almost all of them, but the card machine at a busy bar at two in the morning is not something to depend on. Carry enough cash for the night and a ride home, kept apart from your phone.
Getting home
The night is easy; getting home is the part to plan. Ride-hailing is the safe default, and an off-peak short trip that costs about ₵25 will cost more when every club in the city empties at once. Order from inside the club, check the plate and the driver’s name before getting in, and do not take an okada home.

Staying safe
- Keep your phone out of sight on the street outside the clubs at closing time, which is when it is most often snatched.
- Watch your drink and do not leave it, the same as anywhere.
- Go with people and leave with them. Agree a meeting point before the crowd swallows anyone.
- In an emergency, 112. Police: 191.
December is different
From the middle of December into the new year the clubs are at their fullest and dearest, the diaspora is home, and the big parties sell tickets weeks ahead. Plan that season separately.
