On a Ghanaian campus a pamphlet is not a leaflet. It is the bound set of course notes a lecturer produces for their own class and sells, or has a campus photocopier sell, at the start of a semester.
It exists because prescribed textbooks are expensive and often unavailable, and it persists because it is frequently the closest thing to what will actually be examined. Students buy it for that reason and not out of enthusiasm.
It is also the seam where a real problem sits. Where a pamphlet is effectively compulsory and the lecturer takes the money, students are paying twice for the same course, and there is nowhere obvious to complain. Where it is a genuine set of notes sold at cost, it is one of the more useful things on campus.
Ask second and third years which it is before you pay.
