The Ghana Statistical Service, the national statistics office. Almost every official Ghanaian figure traces back to it, including everything on this site’s data page that is not from the World Bank.
What it produces that you will actually meet:
- The Population and Housing Census, run roughly once a decade. The 2021 census is where Greater Accra’s regional total and every district figure on this site’s map come from.
- Monthly inflation, the year-on-year consumer price index change quoted in the news.
- National accounts — GDP and its sector breakdowns, for Ghana as a whole.
- StatsBank, a public database that will give you census tables by district if you are willing to fight the interface.
Two things worth knowing. The GSS publishes national accounts for Ghana, not by region, which is why there is no Accra GDP series anywhere and why anyone quoting one is quoting something else. And a census is a count — enumerators at doors — which makes it a different kind of figure from the estimates and models that fill the years between.
