Its books are on so many desks that the name has drifted into a common noun: students say they are working through the Aki-Ola the way a British student might once have said the Letts. Competing series exist and are used the same way.
They are cheap, locally printed and organised around the exam rather than around the subject, which is exactly their strength and exactly their limit. They are a drilling tool. The textbook and the WAEC syllabus are what teach.
