The West African Senior School Certificate Examination, set by the West African Examinations Council and sat at the end of senior high school in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and the Gambia.
As with the BECE, the number that counts is the aggregate of your best six subjects, core and elective, and lower is better.
University admission runs on it. Cut-off aggregates vary by programme and by year, with medicine, law, pharmacy and engineering the most competitive.
Results are also recognised outside the region, though universities abroad will usually assess them for equivalency rather than accepting them directly.
