The Social Security and National Insurance Trust, Ghana’s national pension scheme under the National Pensions Act 2008 (Act 766).
Contributions total 18.5% of basic salary — 5.5% deducted from you and 13% paid by your employer on top. Of that, 13.5 points go to SSNIT itself (Tier 1) and 5 points to a privately managed scheme (Tier 2).
Note that SSNIT is charged on basic salary only, not on allowances. An employer structuring a package as a small basic and large allowances shrinks your eventual pension.
Check your contributions are actually being remitted. Deducting and not paying happens, and you find out decades later.
