The Ghana Immigration Service, operating under the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573).
It handles:
- Entry and exit controls, including at Kotoka
- Visa extensions for visitors
- Residence permits — permission to live in Ghana
- Work permits — permission to work, which is separate
- Indefinite residence and the Right of Abode
- Overstay penalties
The distinction that catches people out: a visa lets you enter, a residence permit lets you stay, and a work permit lets you work. They are three different things.
