The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, established under the GIPC Act 2013 (Act 865).
It registers foreign investment and administers the minimum capital thresholds a company with foreign ownership must meet — different amounts for a joint venture with a Ghanaian partner, for a wholly foreign-owned company, and for a trading business.
A foreign-owned trading company must also employ a minimum number of skilled Ghanaians.
GIPC-registered companies receive an immigrant quota — an entitlement to a number of expatriate positions, which is the cleanest route to work authorisation for a foreign employee.
Certain activities are reserved for Ghanaian citizens, including petty trading, market trading and small-scale taxi operations.
