The Electronic Transfer Levy, a tax on electronic transfers including MoMo payments, introduced in 2022.
It was deeply unpopular, widely blamed for pushing people back toward cash, and repealed in April 2025 by the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Act 2025 (Act 1129).
Sending money over mobile money no longer attracts this tax. Network transaction fees still apply — those are charged by the telco, not the government.
